Installing a new lawn seems straightforward, right?
Well, not so much. The likelihood of running into unavoidable pitfalls is pretty high. However, lucky for you today, we’re going to share how to achieve a lush green lawn under minimal stress.
First things first, which lawn type is the best?
The most common lawn types are:
- Sod
- Seed
- Hydroseed
Sod
For an instant green lawn, many people would go for a sod. Applying a new sod is relatively easy, and it only needs consistent maintenance for 2-3 weeks to fully establish.
Seeding
Seeding is easy and less expensive. As long as you plant on the right soil type, nutrients, and sunlight and limit traffic on the lawn, you’re good to go.
The only drawback to seeding is that with the ideal condition you’ve placed for the new seeds, the weeds will also enjoy the same benefits, meaning weeds will compete with your grass.
Hydroseed
Do you have a large lawn? Hydroseeding is the best option for you.
Hydroseeding is a seeding method of spreading a mixture of grass seeds with fertilizer, water, mulch, and chemicals onto the ground using high pressure.
The mulch in the hydroseed is the secret ingredient that makes this process effective; after application, the mulch acts as a protective blanket that encourages better germination of the seeds.
New lawn Installation made easy
To install a sod, first, install your irrigation system, then create a smooth surface for your sod by getting rid of any stones, roots, and other debris, add the topsoil and compost, then evenly grade the land.
And before you lay the sod, apply lime to create an alkaline pH base. Then lay your sod, as simple as that.
Then now the maintenance part, add fertilizer to give your new sod nutrients and water to keep it moist.
For seeding, the process is the same. The only difference is it requires regular maintenance as it takes more time to establish.
For a hydroseed installation, the preparation is the same as you would for sod or seeding.
Only this time, you have to use a hydro seeder tank, add the mixture, and spray the mixture onto the intended surface. Like a seeded lawn, water regularly and try to keep off the grass.
